Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol Feminino

Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol Feminino

The Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol Feminino ("Brazilian Women's Football Championship", in English) was the Brazilian women's football national competition, and was disputed from 1994 to 2001. There was also another tournament, called Taça Brasil de Futebol Feminino ("Women's Football Brazil Trophy", in English) disputed between 1983 and 1989, which was a forerunner of Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol Feminino.

In 2006, another tournament called Taça Brasil de Futebol Feminino was disputed. This competition was organized by the Amateur Paulista Football Federation (Federação Paulista de Futebol Amador, FPFA) and by the National Football League (Liga Nacional de Futebol, Linaf). The competition was disputed in Jaguariúna, São Paulo state. Linaf also organized the Liga Nacional de Futebol Feminino in 2007, in Rio de Janeiro state.

Format

There was no predetermined competition format for the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol Feminino, changing almost every year.

In 2001, the competition was hosted in Ubá, Minas Gerais, being played from August 18 to September 9 of that year, and was disputed by 20 teams divided in five groups of four teams each. The top two teams of each group, plus the two best third placed teams qualified to the second round. These 12 teams were divided in four groups of three teams each. The top team of each group qualified to the semifinals. The losers of the semifinals disputed a third and fourth place playoff, and the winners disputed the final match. Santa Isabel won the competition after defeating Matonense 1-0. The topscorer of the competition was Duda, of Internacional, who scored 10 goals.
