Brandon Jacobs (born July 6, 1982 in Napoleonville, Louisiana) is an American football running back for the New York Giants of the National Football League. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft.

Early Life and College Career

Jacobs was raised in Louisiana, and attended local high school Assumption High and later Coffeyville Community College. National recruiting service Rivals.com listed Jacobs the No.1 JUCO prospect in America in 2003. He signed with Auburn but was relegated to 3rd team halfback on the depth chart behind eventual Top 5 NFL draft picks Ronnie Brown and Carnell "Cadillac" Williams. Despite less playing time, Jacobs was 2nd on the team with 72 carries for 446 yards (6.2 yard avg) and three touchdowns. Unhappy with playing time, and after a personal phone conversation with fellow running back and good friend Muhammad Abdulqaadir, he transferred to Division I-AA Southern Illinois University for his senior season.

Professional career

Going into the 2006 season Jacobs stated that he studied film of famed power running back Eddie George in an effort to refine his running style. Eddie George, like Jacobs was a large power running back. [Altavilla, J Jacobs' Height Requires Change In Style. (2006, July 31). "The Hartford Courant", p. Sports.] In the 2006 season, Jacobs carried the ball 96 times for 423 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 4.4 yards per carry. He added 11 receptions for 149 yards. With the retirement of Tiki Barber, Jacobs took over the starting running back spot for the Giants in the 2007 season, where he rushed for 1009 yards with four rushing touchdowns and gained 174 receiving yards with two touchdowns despite missing five games due to knee and hamstring injuries.

Jacobs underwent wrist surgery during the 2008 off season, but Jacobs reportedly "didn't seem to be in pain" while speaking to fans shortly afterward. Still, his status is uncertain for post-draft camps. [ [http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2008/04/brandon-jacobs-at-msg-with-arm.html Brandon Jacobs at MSG with arm injury] ]
