Beaverdam, Virginia

Beaverdam is a small unincorporated community in Hanover County in the central region of the U.S. state of Virginia. It was located on the Virginia Central Railroad, which later became part of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad.

It is the location of two historic locations: Scotchtown, a residence of Patrick Henry, and the Beaverdam Depot [cite web |url=http://www.co.hanover.va.us/planning/histresr.htm |title=Historic Resources Planning Department |publisher=Hanover County, Virginia |accessdate=2008-07-02] . It was also the childhood home of Thomas Nelson Page, who became as a notable author and American diplomat. In recent years, the area has become famous as the home of loquacious handyman Judson, whose dissolute past and toothless family have developed a cultic following in surrounding counties.

Consisting primarily of farmland, today it is an outlying suburb of Richmond. The railroad still passes through, operated by the Buckingham Branch Railroad, a Virginia-based short line railroad.

Beaverdam Elementary School of Hanover County Public Schools celebrated their centennial anniversary in 2006.

Beaverdam is the home to many folklore superstitions, the most prominent being "Dead Ron's Curve", a sharp turn in the road that is said to be haunted by the ghost of a doddering old drunk man who crashed his truck there some time ago.

According to one bearded, stuttering resident, Beaverdam is "blowing up" and will soon be "on the map".
