Althorpe railway station serves the village of Althorpe in North Lincolnshire. The station is also very close to the villages of Keadby and Gunness.

Stopping services from Sheffield to Scunthorpe call at the station. These stopping services occasionally terminate at Doncaster, although during daytimes, certain services continue after Sheffield through to Lincoln Central.

Most services are provided by Northern Rail who operate the station. Occasional services by TransPennine Express also call at this station.

The station has very limited facilities. There is a shelter on each platform, with a telephone and a help point for contact with Customer Services and British Transport Police on Platform 1 (Eastbound). Platform 2 (Westbound) is only accessible by a footbridge which has 50 steps.

The station is on the west bank of the River Trent, to the west of the combined road-and-rail King George V Bridge, which was a lifting bridge until the late 1950's.

History

The first Althorpe station, opened by the Great Central Railway, was replaced with a new station on the deviation over the new Trent lifting bridge and became Keadby Goods station. The new station, the one that now bears the name, became part of the London and North Eastern Railway during the Grouping of 1923. Then the station then passed on to the Eastern Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948.

When Sectorisation was introduced in the 1980's, the station was served by Regional Railways until the Privatisation of British Railways.
