Revolutionary Communist Party of Turkey

Revolutionary Communist Party of Turkey

Revolutionary Communist Party of Turkey (in Turkish: "Türkiye Devrimci Komünist Partisi") is a clandestine communist party in Turkey. TDKP was founded as a party in 1980, but has its roots in a split from the People's Liberation Army of Turkey-United Struggle (THKO-MB) in 1976. The splinters formed the People's Liberation Army of Turkey-Popular Liberation ("Türkiye Halk Kurtuluş Ordusu-Halkın Kurtuluşu"). THKO-HK was led by a Provisional Central Committee. THKO-HK passed through two splits, "Bes Parcacilar" left in 1976 and "THKO-Aktancilar" in 1977. In 1978 THKO-HK was constructed as Revolutionary Communist Party of Turkey - Build-up Organization ("Tûrkiye Devrimci Komünist Partisi-Insa Örgutu"). "Bes Parcacilar" reunited with TDKP-IÖ in 1979. TDKP-IÖ formally founded TDKP at a congress February 2 1980.

TDKP adhered to the political line of the Albanian Party of Labour. It is generally seen as the most moderate of the various pro-Albanian factions in Turkey. Its programme was 'National Democratic Popular Revolution'.

TDKP started publishing "Devrimin Sesi". The party built up a youth wing, Young Communist League of Turkey (TGKB).

In the second half of the 1980s, TDKP was riddled with internal strife. Three factions split away from it, accusing the leadership of reformism; Revolutionary Communist Party of Turkey-Socialist Unity (TDKP-SB) in 1987, Revolutionary Communist Party of Turkey-Leninist Wing (TDKP-DK) in 1988 and Revolutionary Communist Workers Movement of Turkey (TDKIH) in 1989.

After the fall of Socialist Albania TDKP started looking more towards establishing legal structures. Emek Partisi was banned, and instead on March 25 1996 set up the Labour Party ("Emek Partisi", generally called EMEP) as a legal front party. Today, TDKP conducts most of its activities through EMEP and critics claim TDKP is a dormant structure.

TDKP is an active participant in the International Conference of Marxist-Leninist Parties and Organizations.
