Rohr, Inc., formerly Rohr Industries, is an
aerospace manufacturing company based in Chula Vista,California , south of San Diego. It is a wholly owned unit of theGoodrich Corporation and as such is sometimes referred to as Goodrich Aerostructures Group.Rohr's main product line are
aerostructure s, such as engine-related components, including enginenacelle s,thrust reverser s, and mounting pylons for both military and commercial aircraft. It also consults on integrating and managing its designs with the aircraft's other systems.Other products include APUs, flight control surfaces, and other aircraft parts.
History
Fred Rohr, who created the fuel tanks for
Charles Lindbergh 's "Spirit of St. Louis ", founded Rohr Aircraft Corporation onAugust 6 ,1940 . The company would incorporate as Rohr Corporation in 1969 and change its name to Rohr Industries, Inc. in 1971.In the 1960s and 1970s, Rohr Industries made a foray into
mass transit equipment manufacturing. It manufacturedrailcar s for BART in theSan Francisco Bay Area , and the first 300 subway cars for Metro inWashington, D.C. among others (see Washington Metro rolling stock). In 1970 it produced an experimentalaérotrain design. In the same year it acquired theFlxible Company, abus manufacturer, which would produce aTransbus design. Rohr had divested itself of or discontinued these programs by the late 1970s.Rohr Industries became Rohr, Inc. in 1992. Formerly listed on the
New York Stock Exchange under theticker symbol RHR, it was acquired by the BFGoodrich Company in 1997, but remains a separately incorporated company.References
