Electoral district of Albert

Electoral district of Albert

The division of Albert is an electoral division in the Queensland Legislative Assembly in the state of Queensland, Australia.

An electorate named Albert was created at the 1887 redistribution and endured to 1949 when its territory was divided between the new seats of Southport and Darlington. The name was revived in 1959 and has been in continuous use since.

It is located just to the south of Brisbane, on the "south-east corridor" that extends from Brisbane to the Gold Coast. Its boundaries are the Coomera River in the south and the Logan River in the north, with the Pacific Ocean on the east and the boundaries of Gold Coast City on the west. It includes the suburbs/towns of Coomera, Upper Coomera, Eagleby, Logan Village, Ormeau, Jacobs Well, and Windaroo, as well as parts of Beenleigh. It is mostly semi-urban, with light manufacturing and sugar cane farming being the major industries.

Since 2001 Albert has been represented by Margaret Keech, who is Minister for Fair Trading, Tourism and Wine Industry Development in the Australian Labor Party government of Peter Beattie.
