Wardle High School is a high school founded in September 1977. It caters to boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 18 and is located in Wardle, Greater Manchester, England. The school is ranked above satisfactory, and has several merits, including its music and arts departments Fact|date=January 2008. The school received performing arts status in 2003 and was awarded the 'Artsmark Gold' recognition in 2005 Fact|date=January 2008.

History

Since its inauguration, the school has gained a good reputation within the local communities of Littleborough, Rochdale and Wardle in which its students reside Fact|date=January 2008. Despite problems with previous management in 2004, it has now made progress in the rebuilding of the infrastructure and education and was recently graded highly in a recent OFSTED report. ref|improvs It currently has 1300 students on roll, with an additional 180 sixth-form A-level students.

The school received the performing arts status in 2003 which generated additional financial resources for the school due to its "specialist" status. The school was awarded the Artsmark Gold Award for the North West region. The school is notable for its musical provision, which has been noted in Ofsted reports. The school currently has four brass bands of different age groups, which have played at major venues such as the South Bank Centre, London and Birmingham Symphony Hall, as well as boasting performances at the Royal Albert Hall and several Televisual credits Fact|date=January 2008. In April 2007 the School Youth Band won the title of National School's Champions of Great Britain Fact|date=January 2008.

The school provides specialist teaching through several specialist music teachers. The music program gives pupils practical involvement in music-making in several musical styles, including woodwind, string, jazz, swing, choral ensembles and most notably brass.
