John Edward McKenzie Lucie-Smith (born
27 February 1933 ) is a British writer, poet, art critic, curator and author of exhibition catalogues.He was born in
Kingston, Jamaica , moving to theUnited Kingdom in 1946. He studied atThe King's School, Canterbury , and after a little time in Paris he also studied atMerton College, Oxford .After serving in the
Royal Air Force and working as a copywriter, he became a full-time writer. He succeededPhilip Hobsbaum in organising "The Group", a London-centred poets' group.In an academic programme about
pornography , he appearednaked while being painted by awoman artist. The purpose was to show how rarely this happens compared to art made by men where women arenaked and men are clothed.Works
