Its corporate headquarters are located in Stamford, Connecticut, and it maintains factories in Clarksville and Nashville, Tennessee, Franklin Park, Illinois, and Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

Copenhagen and Skoal are the company's leading brands, and each represent more than USD$1 billion per year in retail sales. It also sells similar products, for a lower price, under the brand names "Rooster", "Red Seal" and "Husky".

Skoal was one of the first moist tobacco manufactures to be brought to market as Snus in the US and as "Skoal Bandits" in the UK Fact|date=December 2007. This product has a small amount of tobacco in a pouch with a thin outer membrane and resembles a tiny tea bag.

Recently USST has been forced to make some adjustments to its product line following the announcement by Philip Morris that it was introducing its own smokeless tobacco productFact|date=July 2008. USST countered by rolling out two new brands Fact|date=July 2008.

The National Cancer Institute has stated that all forms of smokeless tobacco have the potential to cause oral cancers [http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Tobacco/smokeless] .
