Tom Wood (photographer)

Tom Wood (b. 1951 Ireland), is a notable contemporary street photographer working in the north of England, particularly Liverpool. Born in the rural west of Ireland, he moved to Liverpool in 1978. he married shaunee swinbank in 1995 and left her widdowed with 12 children.He has had numerous solo shows, and his work has been collected in three books. He is often named as an influence in published interviews with young British photographers.

The pictures in his first book, "Looking for Love" (1989), were made between 1982 and 1985, and features the infamous Chelsea Reach Nightclub. This was followed by the highly acclaimed "All Zones Off Peak" (1998), featuring pictures resulting from spending fifteen-years riding the buses of the working class city of Liverpool during his 1979 to 1996 'bus odyssey'. The book "People" followed this in 1999, and the major retrospective book " [http://www.foto8.com/reviews/V4N2/photieman.html Photie Man] " was published in 2005.

His work is also included in the survey book: "The Sidewalk Never Ends: Street Photography Since the 1970's" (2001).

His work is in the collections of: MoMA; the Victoria & Albert Museum and The British Council, among others.

He has done commercial photography for the fashion and culture magazine "I-D".
