Risa Harada

Risa Harada

Risa Harada (原田 梨紗 "Harada Risa") is a character from the anime and manga series D.N.Angel. She is voiced by Masumi Asano in the Japanese version of the anime and by Luci Christian in the English dub. In the Wink drama CDs, she's voiced by Sakura Tange.

Background

The younger, more naive of the Harada twins, Risa is initially the object of Daisuke Niwa's affection. However, she doesn't show the same feelings towards Daisuke as he does for her, considering the fact that he is too normal, only thinking of him as a best friend. Risa starts to develop a crush, which turns into an obsession, on Dark upon seeing his attempt to steal an artwork broadcasted over the news, claiming that he is the mysterious person whom she is destined to be with.

Risa is innocent, clumsy, shrewd and can be seen as your typical "girly-girl", though she shows the same stubbornness, and tenacity as Riku, and prefers fashion and relationships over physical activities. However as the series progresses, Risa grows from being the 'naive, little girl' to a 'mature, young lady'. Other than the fact that she has longer hair and a softer voice, she cannot physically be distinguished from her sister.

In volume 10 she is kidnapped by Argentine while on a date with Dark. In volume 11 she is taken to Argentine's "world" and is asked by Argentine to help him become more like Dark.

Personality

Risa is the very cheerful type, not really letting her emotions interfere when she is among her classmates and only showing them when with her closest friends (Daisuke for the most part).

Like her sister Riku Harada, she can be stubborn yet displays bravery and determination (in all her efforts to get Dark to notice her) and is also very protective of her sister as well. She is kind-hearted, rather naive, very sweet and shows appreciation to those who help her when she needs it. Unlike her older sister she isn't as articulate or athletic and isn't too keen on participating in physical activities. However, she is rather clever at times and her tenacity is a definite charm. In the anime she also believes greatly in fate and chance, often using tarot cards to predict future events or calling psychic hotlines. She is often spoiled by those around her, yet near the end series end she develops into a mature character. As Dark later remarks to Risa "you have become a lady." She has another possible love interest in Satoshi Hiwatari, as he shows much concern for her safety throughout both the anime and manga; in the last episode, the two are seen sharing a special glance as they watch the sun rise. Furthermore, in chapter 57, when he spots Risa falling down the collapsing tower caused by Argentine's power, he seems to transform into Krad, which may hint that Satoshi could be developing some romantic feelings for her.
