Gumpert is a German-based company building supercars. The first model produced is the Apollo. Founder and owner of Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur GmbH is Roland Gumpert, former head of Audi Sport. Audi scored 2 drivers and 2 constructors World Rally Championship titles during his time there. The company is based at Altenburg, Thuringia.

Development partners

Gumpert has worked with several technical partners to develop the Apollo, including KW for the suspension, and ATS for the wheels.

Availability

The Gumpert Apollo and Apollo Sport are only available in the European, Middle Eastern and U.S. Markets. There are no current plans for Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur to sell in Asian Markets. Gumpert produces an estimated 24 models a year and is planning on expanding this production number sometime in the year 2008.

Motorsport

In April 2008, Gumpert announced they would enter a hybrid version of the Apollo in the 2008 24 Hours Nürburgring piloted by 2004 winner Dirk Müller and ex Formula One Racer Heinz-Harald Frentzen. The Apollo will use a 3.8 litre petrol engine coupled with a 100kW electric motor. The car will also have the ability to recharge the battery under braking. In July 2008 the Gumpert Apollo appeared on UK show Top Gear, and set the new fastest time on their test track, beating the previous fastest lap time set by the Ascari A10. They also named it "very ugly."
