Friends' School, Kamusinga

Friends' School, Kamusinga, is located in Kimilili on the slopes of Mount Elgon in Western Kenya. It is an all boys’ school and performs well in the national examinations. The school sits on well-manicured grounds and still blessed with its original buildings which have been well maintained on the school's 55 acres of land.

The school was established by "Allan Bradley", a Briton who died aged 90 in February 2000; he is remembered by the school on 'Allan Bradley's Day', the first of its type was in February 18, 2006. In 2007 it was marked on 3 February.

Activities

The school is not only a giant in the academic arena but is also a leading school in the country in extra-curricular activities. It has won the Kenya National Boys Secondary School Hockey Championship for many occasions and as recently as 2006 defeated Hillcrest School by 11 goals to 0. The Friends' School, Kamusinga is also known for it impressive performance in Basketball and Rugby Sevens tournaments.In the year 2007 the rugby team captained by Duncan Wakhu excelled in the sevens tournament. Core members of the team included Austin Osiche, Ezekiel Chege, Yahya Hussein, Peter Wasilwa, Timothy Wafula, Rogers Ayodi Angolo and Abel Khavuchi.

It has a strong cultural inter house competitions in music, as well as a Drama Festival, from which the best acts and performers are put forward for national competitions in which the school has traditionally performed impressively. The current teaching staff stands at 70 with a student population of 900. The school motto is "Use Common Sense". The current Headmaster is Mr. Simon Nabukwesi.

The school has also been at the peak in the national science congress competitions. It has produced various scientific projects which has even increased the ability of the school to create more scientists of this era. The likes of Dickenns Omanga, Boaz Mswahili, Amos Tabalia, Peter Marumbu, Sammy Ndiwa, Joshua Kwendo, Allan Mukuzi, Barrack Owino and Babu Kisingiani managed to produce projects that are highly classed nationally.

In the year 2006, the school produced the best KCSE candidate nationally, Dickenns Omanga.

Alumni

Members of the Old Boys' club are leaders in business, science, research and politics Fact|date=February 2008.

The school has alumni such as Steven Ngosia, Chris Kirubi, a well-known Kenyan economist Fact|date=February 2008 and the high court judge Mr. Aganyanya, who was a lead vocalist during his tenure in the school as a choir member.

The school's revival owes a lot to Mr. Kheamba, the current principal of Alliance High School, who improved the school. He managed to get it running once again and then passed on the mantle to Mr. Nabukwesi, who has maintained the current standards Fact|date=February 2008.

Past teachers:Mr. Emmanuel Khisa and Mr.Namachanja both of whom were former Deputy Principals, with Mr. Namachanja taking over from Mr.Khisa. Mrs. Mabel Nabukwesi also left a mark in the Languages and specifically the Kiswahili department. That said, those that preceded these teachers had a bigger role to play in bringing the school to where it is today. This article would be incomplete without their names. They are Mr Mangeni, Mr Ingosi, Mr Mudeheri, Mr Nguti and many more of the early 90's teachers.
