Sowerby Bridge railway station serves the town of Sowerby Bridge in West Yorkshire, England. It lies on the Caldervale Line 7 km (4½ miles) west of Halifax and 33 km (21 miles) west of Leeds.

The original station was opened on the 5 October, 1840 by the Manchester and Leeds Railway Company. It was severely damaged by fire in October 1978 and demolished by British Rail in 1980. The current station, which is not on the original site, was built in 1981.

At Milner Royd Junction, approximately a quarter of a mile to the east the lines to Halifax and Brighouse diverge. To the west, the dismantled branch line to Ripponden and Rishworth diverged, until its closure in 1958 [cite web|url=http://www.lostrailwayswestyorkshire.co.uk/Railway%20Ramblers%20Calderdale.htm|title=L&YR Sowerby Bridge - Rishworth|publisher=Railway Ramblers|accessdate=2008-01-28] .

ervices

There is a half hourly service Monday to Saturday daytimes on the Caldervale Line to Leeds via Halifax and Bradford Interchange in one direction and to Manchester Victoria in the other.

Evenings and Sundays there is an hourly service each way.

Since December 2007 there has been an hourly service Monday to Saturday daytimes on the Huddersfield Line to Leeds via Brighouse and Dewsbury eastbound and Hebden Bridge westbound.

Future plans from December 2008

Northern Rail have proposed changes to the Caldervale line services from December 2008. Three trains per hour will run between Leeds and Manchester Victoria - one will be the current stopping service, one will go via Dewsbury and Brighouse, and include stops at Moston, Mills Hill and Castleton, and one will be a limited stop service - between Bradford and Manchester the service will only call at Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and Rochdale.

In addition, some peak services between York and Blackpool North will call at Sowerby Bridge. [http://www.wypta.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/47213667-2BE0-4ED1-82D1-0E319B982594/0/RWG16MAY2008ITEM5.pdf]
