Assumption College, Thailand

Assumption College (Thai: โรงเรียนอัสสัมชัญ) is a private catholic school in Bangkok, Thailand.
Assumption College was established in 1885 by Father Amil Colombet, the missionary priest from France who came to Thailand to introduce Christian Religion to the Thai people.
When Father Amil Colombet was in Thailand. He saw a lot of Thai children playing and having fun all day without proper education. He thought these children should have a basic education for their good future. This was the main reason why he decided to set up Assumption College.
In the past, the academic building was only a wooden house. The first student of Assumption College was Mr. Siew Meng Tek. The number of students increased year by year. Up to now, over 50,000 have studied in Assumption College.
In 1900, Father Amil Colombet went back to France. He asked The St. Gabriel Foundation to continue managing Assumption College. The Director of St. Gabriel Foundation sent 5 Reverend Brothers to Thailand in order to continue the initiative of Father Colombet. They were Rev. Bro. Martin Detours, Rev. Bro. Arbaire, Rev. Bro. Augustine, Bro. Gabriel Ferreti and Rev. Bro. Helaire who was the key person who continued the objective of Father Colombet, especially in education section. Subsequently, Assumption College is the first boy school of St. Gabriel Foundation in Thailand.
As for the meaning of Assumption, you might think that the meaning of Assumption is assuming which is something that you accept as true without question or proof. In fact, Assumption here is derived from the French language "Assomption", meaning "Mother Maria has gone to the heaven with both her body and her soul”.
