- Juniper Green
Juniper Green is a suburb of
Edinburgh ,Scotland , in the south-west of the city along theWater of Leith . It bridges the city bypass, and extends along the foothills of the Pentlands. It is bordered byColinton to the east andCurrie to the south-west. By general consent, the geography of Juniper Green includesBaberton Mains to the north.Juniper Green's earliest mention is in the Kirk records of Colinton in 1707.
Traditionally, its major industries were paper and snuff. Today it is primarily a dormitory suburb of Edinburgh with its own shops, pubs, fish and chip shop, and a restaurant. Leisure facilities include a golf course, bowling club, church and tennis club.
Juniper Green 300
The 300th anniversary of Juniper Green was celebrated throughout 2007 and the community supported many social and environmental improvement projects. The opportunity was also taken to record reminiscences about Juniper Green and collect photographs which are archived on the Juniper Green Village Association website.
Juniper Green Village Association
The Juniper Green Village Association (JGVA) is sponsoring a number of community projects during 2008. Some of the projects initiated during the Juniper Green 300 celebration are ongoing and are being stewarded by the JGVA.
The project to erect a monument in the village is progressing. A letter from the Council has confirmed that the grassed area next to the tennis courts (Coordinates 55.9048 N, 3.2867 W) would be suitable for erection of a Juniper Green 300 monument.
The JGVA website is the new home for much of the community history currently presented on the Juniper Green 300 tercentenary web site, which also contains local news a discussion.
Juniper Green Conservation Area
Juniper Green Conservation Area is situated seven miles to the west of Edinburgh around the main Lanark Road. The conservation area is centred on the historic core of the village of Juniper Green, one of a number of villages, which have been absorbed intothe
City of Edinburgh .
