The "Battle of Maidstone" was a battle in the Second English Civil War (1648). In June, a Royalist uprising broke out in Kent. The Cavaliers captured Gravesend and Maidstone. Sir Thomas Fairfax marched on Maidstone and recaptured the town. The Royalist forces attacked the parliamentary troops at Maidstone on June 24. The battle resulted in a parliamentary victory with over 800 Royalists dead. The battle ended the uprising.

A re-enactment of the battle by members of the Sealed Knot took place in the town centre on 1st June 2008, to commemorate the battle's 360th anniversary.
