Troisdorf is a town in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis (district), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Geography

Troisdorf is located approx. 22 kilometers south of Cologne and 13 kilometers north east of Bonn.

History

In 1952 Troisdorf became a free city, in 1969 the urban area got extended with the township of Sieglar and the villages Altenrath and Friedrich-Wilhelms-Hütte (total population 1969: about 51 000). The first colonization goes back to the 9th (Eschmar and Sieglar 832) and 10th (Bergheim 987) century with the first churches built around 700 AD in Bergheim (St. Lambertus).

About 9600 foreign nationals live in Troisdorf. The two strongest foreign national population groups are Turks (3100) and Greeks (1600). In 1972 (4.6.1972) Troisdorf founded the first advisory council for its foreign citizens in Germany.
