Ahmad Aziz Rafiq

Ahmed Aziz Rafiq (born in 1977) is an Australian citizen that was detained without charge for 18 months in Iraq.

Ahmed came to Australia in 1999 as a refugee from Saddam Hussein's regime.cite web | author=Tom Allard | url=http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/immigration-delay-leaves-abu-ghraib-prisoner-in-limbo/2006/05/23/1148150255159.html | title=Immigration delay leaves Abu Ghraib prisoner in limbo | work=The Sydney Morning Herald | date=2006-05-24 | accessdate=2007-09-09] He has lived in Adelaide and Sydney,In February 2004 Ahmed travelled to Iraq to get married. four months after his wedding, Ahmed went out to meet a friend and then was kidnapped by the PDK kurdish party intelligence.

According to Alexander Downer, Australian Foreign Minister, Ahmed was arrested by Kurdish authorities and later handed to the US Army. Ahmed was initially held in the infamous Abu Ghraib prison and later transferred to Camp Bucca. Ahmed was held without charge until October 2005. In October, after one year and nine months in detention, his case was transferred to the Central Iraqi Court and after his first interview with the Iraqi investigative judge who didn't find any evidences against him, decided to determine his release.
