Ardley

Ardley

Ardley is a village and civil parish in the Cherwell district of Oxfordshire, England, just north-west of Bicester. The parish includes the village of Fewcott that is nowadays contiguous with Ardley. According to the 2001 census, the parish had a population of 666.

The limestone quarry at Ardley has yielded a significant find of dinosaur tracks (ichnites), discovered in 1997 and thought to have been left by Megalosaurus and possibly Cetiosaurus. Thee is a site of special scientific interest in the village boasting a colony of the great crested newt and an outcrop of Jurasic limestone.

There is a public house called the 'Fox and Hounds' in Ardley and a public house called 'The White Lion' in Fewcott. There are no shops in Ardley although Cherwell Valley services is approximately half a mile east from Ardley on the opposite side of Junction 10 of the M40 motorway. There are other employers in this village.

The village boasts a church by the name of St Mary's.
