Al-Foraih

Al-Foraih

The Al-Foraih family ( _ar. الفريح) (also spelt: alforaih, al fraih, al furaih) originally from Najd and currently in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, descend from the Al-Anajer (Al-Anager) ( _ar. العناقر) family of the early 1700s from which parted the Al-Foraih family from the Al-Anjari ( _ar. العنجري) family. The Al-Foraih family originated from the Oushager village in Najd from the Bani Sa'ad of Tameem tribe.

Illustrious Figures

Mohammed Othman Al-Foraih had five sons Jassim جاسم, Othman عثمان, Ali علي, Abdullrahman عبدالرحمن and Mansour منصور. Othman عثمان and Ali علي are both considered historical figures in Kuwait's history and were well-known for their large fortunes and countless acres of land during the mid 1800s and 1930s, making them some of the richest and main affluent Kuwaiti merchants at the time. Ali was responsible for handling the partnership's dealings in India, whereas Othman was responsible for managing the duo's business in Kuwait.

Contributions During the Famine

Othman M. Al-Foraih is most recognized for his famous food contribution to the famine-stricken population of Kuwait during the late 1800s by donating the entire contents of his recently arrived shipment to the residents prior to the ship docking the harbor.

Many families generally with names similar to Al-Foraih claim relation to this family, yet the original Al-Foraih family maintains precise records of their relatives in order to identify authenticity.
