Ash is a village and civil parish in the borough of Guildford, Surrey, with a population of 17,549 according to the 2001 census. It is at the far west of the Guildford borough, and the urban development in the parish runs directly into Aldershot, which is on the western side of the River Blackwater, in Hampshire. The census area of Ash Wharf has a population of 6,071. Samuel Cody, the aviation pioneer and the first man to fly a heavier-than-air machine in the British Isles, lived for the last two years of his life at Ash Vale, the neighbouring village in the same parish council. His house - 'Valecroft' - at the junction of Frimley Road and Lysons Avenue, bears a blue commemorative plaque.

Ash has four schools situated in the village. These include Walsh Junior, Walsh Infant, Shawfield and Ash Manor Technology College. Ash Manor Technology College also offers a nursery service.

A museum is located in the cemetery chapel. Ash Manor Technology College has 1,013 students aged 11-16. Ash United is the local football club, which came 20th in the top 20 of the 2007/08 season league finish.
