Biography

Danny Michel was born in 1970 next to the "Smiles n' Chuckles" chocolate factory in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. His family name "Michel" is often mistaken for being of French ethnicity, but is actually German.[1]

In 2003 Danny signed a record deal with MapleMusic Recordings/Universal Music Canada, releasing Tales from the Invisible Man (2003) and Valhalla (2006) with them.

In 2004, Michel was nominated for the Best New Artist Juno Award,[2] after the release of Tales from the Invisible Man the previous year. Later that year, after recording an album of David Bowie cover songs (Loving the Alien) Michel took a break from recording, but continued doing studio work, producing and playing guitar in Sarah Harmer's band.

In 2007, legendary Texan rocker Alejandro Escovedo mentioned his love of Danny's records in Harp Magazine.[3]

In 2008 Michel left MapleMusic, releasing his album Feather, Fur & Fin independently, as well as managing his own career. As part of his self-promotion, he has performed as Stuart McLean's musical guest on Vinyl Cafe and released a DVD Welcome Home that was nominated for another Juno award.[4] Michel also hosted a summer radio show on CBC Radio One called "Under the Covers".[5]

In the months before releasing his album Sunset Sea on July 1, Canada Day, in 2010, Michel recorded a number of Studio Updates: short clips that showed the process of writing, recording and producing the album, which he released through his YouTube account.[6]

In addition to recording and producing his own material, he also shares his production skills with other talent and is quickly making a name for himself as a producer and mixer. He has worked on projects with many musicians, including Andy Mcguire, Nabi Loney, Ayla Brook, Rocking Dog Bus, AA Sound System, James Moors, Earl Slick, Damhnait Doyle, Gentleman Reg, Earl Slick, and Leeroy Stagger.[7]

Recently Danny's song "Feather, Fur & Fin" won the David Suzuki Foundation's "Playlist for the Planet".[7]
