Klimov RD-500

Klimov RD-500

The Klimov RD-500 was an unlicensed Soviet version of the Rolls-Royce Derwent Mk.V turbojet developed by the Klimov OKB in 1947. The "500" designation came from Factory Number 500 where the engine was first produced (Klimov RD-45 was similarly named after Factory Number 45). RD-500 was a single-stage centrifugal compressor engine with nine combustion chambers and a single-stage turbine. The engine developed 15.6 kN (3,495 lbf) of thrust. RD-500 was used in a number of early Soviet jet fighters including Lavochkin La-15,Yakovlev Yak-23, and Yak-25/Yak-30.
