Set in "Burnfield", (A fictional suburb of
Austin, TX ) the film follows five young people as they stand around at "the corner" one night. This night, Pony (Jayce Bartok), the only person from the group who has "made it" is returning to visit his old stomping ground. Various revelations are made by the characters as they waste away the time by discussing the inane topics that surround suburban youth. Much talk is given to the dream of escaping Burnfield, but few do.The play and movie are based on growing up in
Woburn, MA (Burnfield in the movie), a suburb of Boston (Austin in the movie). The writer,Eric Bogosian , grew up in Woburn. The convienience store setting in the movie is based on the "7-11" in the "Four Corners" part of the west side of Woburn. The high-school fight song that is sung in one scene is the actual Woburn High fight song ("Black and Orange" to the tune of "On Wisconsin")Themes
