CHRC (AM)

CHRC (AM)

CHRC is a French language Canadian radio station located in Quebec City, Quebec.

Owned and operated by Corus Entertainment, it broadcasts on 800 kHz with a power of 50,000 watts as a class B station, using a very directional antenna with the same directional pattern day and night to protect various other stations on the same frequency, including CJAD in Montreal (which is approximately 250 kilometres or 150 miles away).

The station has a news/talk format and is part of the "Corus Québec" network (formerly the "Radiomédia" network) which operates across Quebec, and identifies itself as "Info 800".

On August 9, 2007, Corus announced a deal to sell the station to a group of local businessmen, namely Michel Cadrin, Jacques Tanguay and Patrick Roy, owners of the Québec Remparts QMJHL franchise. The new owners plan on converting the station to a primarily sports-based format. Corus Quebec news/talk programming will continue to air in the area via CFEL-FM, which recently applied to move its transmitter to Quebec City.
