Goldblade are a punk rock band from Manchester UK. The band formed in early 1995 when ex Membranes frontman John Robb put the band together with Wayne Simmons and former A Witness vocalist Keith Curtis on bass, Rob Haynes on drums and Jay Taylor on guitar. The band signed to Ultimate records and released their first single ‘Soul Power’ before releasing several more singles and three albums- 'Home Turf’ and ‘Goldblade Drop the Bomb’ and ‘Do You believe In the Power Of Rock n Roll’ before Simmons and Taylor left to be replaced by ex Nightingales guitarist Pete G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S and Johny Skullknuckles. The current line up has recorded two albums ‘Rebel Songs’ and soon to be released album ‘Mutiny’.

Early history

Goldblade formed in Manchester in the mid nineties playing what they called "punk rock hooligan blues". The band toured a lot and signed to Ultimate records. their debut single 'Soul Power' was single of the week in the NME, and their third single 'Strictly hardcore' was a UK top 75 hit. The band's debut album 'Home Turf' was well received in the music press.

Home Turf

Home Turf, produced by Gavin Monaghan was an ambitious debut album that went from pop punk anthems like 'Strictly Hardcore' to some more experimental material. The album got good reviews

Gold Blade Drop The Bomb

With added brass Goldblade's second album was recorded in Brighton at The Levellers' studio and released on Ultimate Records. It became the band's second top 75 album and saw the first single off the album 'Hairstyle' get daytime radio play and an appearance on Ant and Dec's Saturday morning show "'. The week the single came out Ultimate went bankrupt and the single didn't even make the Top 100.

Do You Believe In The Power Of Rock n Roll?

The band toured Germany readying the new songs for the album. Guitarist Jay Taylor left shortly after recording to concentrate on his own band Bone-Box.

Rebel Songs

'Rebel Songs' was released by Captain Oi in 2005. The first single, 'Psycho', has become the band's most popular song.On the back of the album's success Captain Oi released 'Strictly Hardcore' , a compilation of the band's four albums. This follows frontman John Robb's book 'Punk Rock- An Oral History' - an account of the punk rock explosion.

Mutiny

Goldblade's new album, 'Mutiny' was released by Captain Oi! Records in September 2008.
