Bruce Jones (born 24 January 1953) is an English actor, best known for his role as cab driver Les Battersby-Brown in "Coronation Street". He left the role in 2007. Biography

Jones was the first of six children born to a father who worked as a steel erector and a mother who was a factory worker. During his school life, he appeared in several plays. At sixteen, he gained an apprenticeship as a pipefitter, but later became a firefighter and then a dairy worker. He then trained at the Manchester School of Theatre and went on to become a successful compere on the Northern club circuit, forming a double act with a friend to become "Clark and Jones".

In 1977, Jones and a friend discovered the body of murdered prostitute Jean Jordan, one of 13 women murdered by the "Yorkshire Ripper", Peter Sutcliffe. They uncovered her body in allotments in Manchester.

Since leaving Corrie, Bruce Jones is now working with Laughter UK, on evenings with Bruce Jones, Theatre shows, various other events.

Career

In 1993, Jones gained his big break playing the lead role of Bob Williams in the Ken Loach film "Raining Stones". In 1997, he had small parts in the hit film "The Full Monty" and in the Shane Meadows film Twenty Four Seven, before joining the cast of "Coronation Street". In 2007, he served a suspension from the show after allegedly getting drunk with an undercover reporter, making inappropriate comments and revealing future storylines. [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6500399.stm] It was confirmed on May 30 2007 that he would not be returning to the show, although this was not cited as being linked to his suspension.

He is currently performing stand up comedy in Benidorm. On 23 March 2008, Jones featured in "Celebrity Wife Swap" with Sinitta.

Jones is also working on a movie, starring as Mick the Manager in the film Souled Out.
