Aireborough

Aireborough was an urban district in the West Riding of Yorkshire from 1937 to 1974, to the north of Leeds, England. [http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/relationships.jsp?u_id=10180107] It covered Guiseley, Yeadon and Rawdon, and was created as a merger of those three urban districts along with part of Wharfedale Rural District. The district was named after the River Aire. The district now forms part of the City of Leeds metropolitan borough.

The name of Aireborough remains in use in many local organisations as well as being a Delivery Office of the Royal Mail. It is also a Census ward and was notable for being named 'the most average place in England and Wales' [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3163773.stm] in the studies arising from the 2001 Census.

Aireborough is also known for its sport in the form of local rugby union side Aireborough RUFC. The club have recently enjoyed success in many different ways; two promotions, one championship and the prestigious Yorkshire Silver Trophy all in the space of season 2004-05 and 2006-07 have guided them into Yorkshire Division 3 along with the likes of Skipton, Yarnbury and Baildon.

Yeadon and Guiseley Secondary School was renamed as Aireborough Grammar School in 1937, when the Aireborough Urban District was formed.
