Elena Liashenko (Ukrainian: Олена Анатоліївна Ляшенко Olena Anatoliivna Liashenko; Russian: Елена Анатольевна Ляшенко; born August 9, 1976 in Kiev, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian figure skater. She is the 2004 European silver medalist and 1995 and 2005 bronze medalist. She is also 4-time Olympic team member of Ukraine.

Biography

Liashenko started skating at the age of four-and-a-half.[1] She is a three-time European Medalist, had earned multiple National Champion titles, and is a four-time Olympian. She finished in the Top 10 at the World Championships nine times. Her highest finish was sixth, in 1994 and 2002. She retired after the 2005/2006 season due to recurring injury. Her injuries became a problem after the national championships. She withdrew from the 2006 European Championships, but managed to compete at the Olympics. She retired afterwards.

In summer of 2005, Liashenko married Ukrainian pentathlete Andrei Efremenko, the brother of Galina Efremenko's husband.[1] In 2007 they had a son, Platon.[2] After retiring from competition, she began coaching young children in Kiev.[2][3]
