Vopnafjörður is a village in the north-eastern part of Iceland, situated in a fjord with the same name. There are 700-800 people living in the village. In Vopnafjörður there is one school, Vopnafjarðarskóli, with about 100 students in it, the school has a website : http://www.vopnaskoli.is .

The main industry in Vopnafjörður is fish processing. The company HB Grandi has set up a highly technical fish processing factory in the village in the past few years.

Vopnafjörður is known for it's magnificent nature and the fjord divides in three valleys named Selárdalur, Vesturárdalur and Hofsárdalur. Vopnafjörður is also known for the fishing rivers running through those valleys.

Hofsá and Selá are one of the most popular salmon rivers in Iceland. Every year a great number of foreign visitors among Icelanders come to fish in the rivers. In 2004, the famous golf champion Jack Nicklaus came to Selá to capture some fish and in July 2006, former US president George H. W. Bush spent a few days fishing there.

One of the Icelandic landvættir, the dragon, dwelled in Vopnafjörður according to Heimskringla

Einherji is Vopnafjörður's sports club.
