Bread and Roses (band)

Bread and Roses (band)

Bread and Roses is an all-acoustic folk-punk band from Boston, Massachusetts. Their style of music includes influences from country, bluegrass, irish traditional music, and old-timey genres, as well as punk rock. Their songs range from political, such as their rendition of the famous union ballad "Dump the Bosses Off Your Back", to renditions of American folk music classics. They also play many originals.

Bread and Roses has been around in different incarnations since 2000. As of 2007's release of "Deep River Day," the Bread and Roses lineup consisted of Morgan on bass and lead vocals, Adam on fiddle and vocals, Nate on mandolin, Steve on guitar, dobro, harmonica, and vocals, Dan Pond on acoustic guitar and tin whistle, Whitney on banjo and acoustic guitar and Dan Wilder on drums. An earlier version played electrically and showed a heavy Gang of Four influence.

Bread and Roses' releases include a self-produced CD-R, a 7" split with Mischief Brew out on Fistolo Records, and a full length album titled "Deep River Day" out on Fistolo Records. The band has toured with Yoni Gordon and played shows with Mischief Brew, The Can Kickers, The Pine Hill Haints, Tomorrow The Gallows, and many other bands. Bread and Roses are known for their rowdy and enjoyable live performances. They have played in backyards and basements but also in more conventional performance spaces like Cambridge's The Lily Pad and Providence, RI's, AS220.
