Aluminium monofluoride is the chemical substance with the formula AlF. This elusive species is formed by the reaction between aluminium trifluoride and metallic aluminium at elevated temperatures but quickly reverts back to the reactants when cooled. [J.M.Dyke, C.Kirby, A.Morris, B.W.J.Gravenor, R.Klein and P.Rosmus (1984) "A study of aluminium monofluoride and aluminium trifluoride by high-temperature photoelectron spectroscopy" "Chemical Physics" 88: p. 289.] Clusters of derived from related aluminium(I) halides can be stabilized using specialized ligands. [Dohmeier, C.; Loos, D.; Schnöckel, H. “Aluminum(I) and Gallium(I) Compounds: Syntheses, Structures, and Reactions” Angewandte Chemie International Edition in English 1996, Volume 35, Pages 129 - 149. doi|10.1002/anie.199601291]

This molecule has been detected in the interstellar medium, where molecules are so dilute that intermolecular collisions are unimportant. [cite journal | author=L. M. Ziurys, A. J. Apponi, T. G.
