"A Breath of Snow and Ashes" is the sixth volume of the best-selling Outlander series, written by Diana Gabaldon.

Plot summary

Claire is the wife of "Jamie Fraser", her 18th century husband, and facing the politics and turmoil of the forthcoming American Revolution. The preceding novel, "The Fiery Cross", concluded with political unrest in the colonies beginning to boil over and the Frasers trying to peacefully live on their isolated homestead. Jamie is suddenly faced with walking between the fires of loyalty to the oath he swore to the British crown and following his hope for freedom in the new world. Though Jamie and Claire face skirmishes and divided loyalties from friends and neighbors, Gabaldon manages to leave her audience on the edge of their seats right through the last page.

As the sixth in what is now a six-book series (according to the author there will be a Book 7-"An Echo in the Bone", possibly a Book 8) of Claire Randall Fraser and her Highlander husband Jamie, the story is an integral step in a bestselling and surprisingly rich tale spanning the time from the Scottish Rising of 1745, to the American Revolution.
