Khargone is a city and a municipality in Khargone district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of Khargone District. It is situated on kunda river. It is also famous for Navgraha Mandir.

It is located in the heart of india and 90 km away from Barwani.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Khargone had a population of 86,443. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Khargone has an average literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 57%. In Khargone, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Khargone have people belonging to all the religions. Its famous for Cotton and Chilly. It is India's biggest Cotton producing district. Also Red chilly is exported to foreign contries.

Kharone also has an Engineering college called "Jawaharlal Institute of Technology" (Estd. 1997) which is 25 km far from the main city.

Khargone is fastly growing as a city and now it has included lots of nearby villages into it like Jetapur. Politically Khargone had a mixed background of Congress and BJP but recently it has been evolved as a strong BJP supporting city.
