Gampaha is an urban city in Sri Lanka and is the capital of the Gampaha District in Western Province, north of Colombo. Gampaha District is separated from Colombo mainly by the Kelani River.

The word "Gampaha" in Sinhala (ගම්පහ ) is composed from 2 words – "Gam", which means village and - "paha", which means five - literally meaning "Five Villages". The five villages in the Gampaha city is Ihalagama, Pahalagama, Medagama, Aluthgama and Yagoda. Gampaha is about 4km from Miriswatta on Colombo-Kandy road. Gampaha is surrounded by Yakkala, Miriswatta, Minuwangoda and Ja-ela towns. Gampaha is also the home town of the famous Ayurveda Physician Wickremarachchi who produced hundreds of Ayurveda Physicians who came to be known as Ayurveda Physicians of Gampaha. They are still found all over Sri Lanka.

Gampaha is the 15th railway station from the Colombo fort on Colombo-Polgahawela main railway line.
