John Paul Leon (born April 26, 1972 in New York City) is an American comic book artist best known for his critically-acclaimed work that envisioned and redefined the entire Marvel Comics universe in the maxi-series "Earth X".

Biography

John first began working professionally at the age of 16, with a series of black and white illustrations for TSR's "DRAGON and DUNGEON" magazines. In college, while majoring in illustration at New York's School of Visual Arts, and studying under noted artists as Will Eisner, Walter Simonson, and Jack Potter, Leon began his comic book career with a mini-series for Dark Horse Comics, RoboCop: Prime Suspect, and followed with the DC Comics/Milestone, Static, which eventually developed into the popular animated television show, Static Shock.

Leon received his Bachelor's in Fine Arts from SVA in 1994, and began working on some of the most popular American comics characters, including Superman, Batman, and the X-men. Some of his other notable works include "Logan: Path of the Warlord", "The Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix" and "Challengers of the Unknown".

Recently, Leon has contributed artwork for the "Superman Returns" style guide, as well as a pair of Superman children's books for Meredith Books. He also illustrated most of the licensing artwork for the movie "Batman Begins". He is currently working on the critically acclaimed "The Winter Men", a mini-series for Wildstorm/DC Comics.

Leon lives in Miami, Florida.
