Trivia

A traditional song from Jacobstowe 'The Jacobstowe Wassail' was recorded by on 'Holy Heathens and the Old Green Man. There is a "Jacobstowe" (now spelled with an "e") in Devon and a "Jacobstow" (no "e") in Cornwall. The Rev'd Sabine Baring Gould who "found" the song collected from both Devon and Cornwall. However, a study of the 25" to the mile O.S. maps in the latter half of the 19th century reveals no apple orchards around the Cornish village, suggesting that the source of the song was Jacobstowe (Devon) not too far away from the reverend gentleman's home at Lew Trenchard.
