"The Greenville News" is a daily morning newspaper published in Greenville, South Carolina. Along with "The State" in Columbia and Charleston's "Post and Courier", it is one of the three largest papers in the Palmetto State.

History

The Greenville News started off as a four page publication in 1874. For a one year subscription it was eight dollars. After five different owners and many editors, the Peace family bought the paper in 1927; around the same time that Greenville was becoming known as “The Textile Center of the South.” Shortly thereafter, The Piedmont, a small afternoon paper, began printing. Then In 1995, the smaller afternoon paper and the larger morning paper merged to become The News-Piedmont. Later that same year, Gannett purchased the newspaper and became the new owner, changing the name to The Greenville News. Today The Greenville News prints over 100,000 newspapers a day.

Publications

Besides The Greenville News itself, the company also publishes a newspaper/magazine called Link. It features local entertainment, news, photos, reviews and more. It is a free publication and is available at more than 1,100 locations in Anderson, Greenville, Pickens and Spartanburg counties.
