Diocese of Thizica

Diocese of Thizica

The Diocese of Thizica (sometimes spelled Tizica) is a Titular see of the Roman Catholic Church. The town of Thizica was likely in the Roman Province of Africa. St. Augustine of Hippo wrote that its bishop was condemned to death by Donatists (heretics) in 313.

The modern use of the diocese as a Titular See began only in 1967 and there have been four bishops since that time:

From April 7, 1997 to March 7, 1998, the diocese was temporarily elevated to a titular archdiocese as its incumbent, bishop O'Brien, was promoted to archbishop.
