Harry Coover

Biography

Coover was born in Newark, Delaware. He received his B.S. from Hobart College and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Cornell University. Coover invented the cyanoacrylate adhesive called "super glue" while working at Eastman Kodak in 1942. He holds 460 patents and is responsible for advances in the fields of graft polymerization, organophosphorus chemistry, and olefin polymerization.

He resides in resides in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Honors and awards

Cyanoacrylate uses

Super Glue is found in many households, used in woodworking and appliance repair. It is also used in industrial binding and medical applications. In the Vietnam War, the cyanoacrylates Harry Coover created were found to be useful for sealing punctures, connecting veins and arteries, and to stop the bleeding of wounds.
