Academy Film Archive

The Academy Film Archive is part of the Academy Foundation, itself part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, an educational and nonprofit organization. The film archive is located in Hollywood, California, and comprises a collection of 15,000 titles, 70,000 separate items, including early American cinema, documentary film, interviews, Academy Award winning films, and Academy Awards Shows. The foundation is also concerned with the preservation and restoration of films, as well as new technologies and methods of preservation. The archive was founded in 1927, and its first film was purchased in 1929. It holds both original films of the Academy Awards, and amateur films, in addition to its main movie collection.
