Giorgos Alkaios

Giorgos Alkaios (24 December, 1971 - ) is a Greek pop musician, born in Athens. His career started in 1989 when he participated in a Greek television casting show. After a short period of stage acting, Alkaios dedicated himself to music. His first single, "Ti Ti," made him highly popular in Greece. He is known for his distinctive style combining Greek and Oriental elements with modern pop music.

Giorgos Alkaios also penned for many other artists. Among others the internationally successful song "Opa Opa," which was covered by many singers (i.e. Antique, Despina Vandi, Notis Sfakianakis). The Antique version reached No. 2 in the European Top Ten.

The famous Turkish soccer team Galatasaray selected his song "Sirmatoplegma" as an anthem.

SPECIAL NOTE: It has been argued that Alkaios was actually born in Lynn, MA a suburb of Boston, MA(U.S.A.)and moved to Athens, Greece as a small child, but no confirmation has ever been made.
