Infernal Method was a melodic death metal band from Sydney, Australia. Despite the volatility of its line-up, the band was a dominant presence on Sydney's live metal music scene between early 2002 and late 2006 and notable for featuring an array of members who came from or later joined other bands including Dimmu Borgir, Pyramaze, Daysend and Dungeon. During its existence, Infernal Method toured Australia with Insision, Arch Enemy and Dark Tranquillity at various times and featured at the annual Metal for the Brain festival on several occasions.

History

The first line-up featured Petar Peric on guitar, Shane Thompson on vocals, ex-Deadspawn guitarist Aaron Bilbija and drummer Grahame Goode who had also featured in an early version of Deadspawn plus other Sydney bands such as Neophobia and Automation, a band that provided bass player Michael Kordek. The band then made its first appearance at Metal For The Brain that year, where they were billed as Deadspawn due to the line-up yet to finalise a new name.

In early 2002, the band played its first show under the name Infernal Method in Sydney. By then Bilbija had departed for Sydney thrash band Psi. Kore (which subsequently became Daysend a few months later) and been replaced by that band's guitarist Andrew Lilley, Joss Separovic had replaced Thompson and Lee Glanzmann from Syphilis replaced Kordek, who also went on to join Daysend. American keyboard player Jonah Weingarten had also been added but he was fired from the band after just two performances. Weingarten returned to the US and formed Pyramaze shortly afterwards.

An album was recorded but before it was released Lilley was replaced Jamie Stinsson, who under the name Astennu had been a member of Norwegian black metal band Dimmu Borgir. The album remained unreleased while Infernal Method continued to play live, although less frequently and in August 2004 the group disbanded.

Peric and Goode served a short tenure with Sydney power metal band Dungeon into early 2005, then reformed Infernal Method with Matt Sorrenson from Syphilis replacing Astennu. Separovic then left once again, with Evan Williams from Flesh Mechanic taking his place. With this line-up, Infernal Method toured nationally for the first time supporting Swedish death metal band Insision, then re-recorded the never-released debut album. "Architecture of Instinct" was issued by Brisbane label Ward69 in December 2005, shortly after a tour with Sweden's Arch Enemy. Following this, Peric and Glanzmann left Infernal Method. Andrew Najdek from Switchblade and None Shall Pass guitarist Gerard Dack joined in their place but Peric returned to the band after eight months and Najdek stepped aside. In September 2006, the band supported Dark Tranquillity in Sydney and Melbourne. Williams was replaced by Najdek briefly but almost immediately Peric and Sorrenson leftthe band on the eve of a show with Polish band Vader and Infernal Method split.
