Govardhana matha

The Govardhana maţha is located in the city of Puri in Orissa state (India), and is associated with the Jagannath temple. It is one of those four cardinal mathas said to have been founded by Adi Shankara, and is the eastern matha. As per the tradition initiated by Adi Shankara, it is in charge of the Rig Veda.

Its current head or Shankaracharya is Nishcalananda Sarasvati. He was appointed by his predecessor Niranjandev Tirth [A Survey of Hinduism By Klaus K. Klostermaier Published 1994SUNY Press] in the early 1990s.

Adhokshajanand

Adhokshajanand is known for using harsh words unusual for a Hindu monk [http://www.indiatoday.com/webexclusive/dispatch/20021005/uday.html Monk With a Motive, India Today, Oct 5, 2002] . He has visited homes of Kashmiri terrorists killed by Indian security forces. In an article in Paigam-Rahbar, he called Palestinians freedom fighters and Israel a "terrorist state".
