Zaton (Dubrovnik-Neretva county)

Zaton is a village in southern Croatia, located on the coast of the eponymous bay, on the Dubrovnik Riviera, 8 km northwest of Dubrovnik, next to the village of Orašac. Chief occupations are farming, viticulture, olive growing and tourism. Zaton is located on the main road (M2, E65).

ZATON is a beautiful and picturesque, 2 km long bay, (bay=Zaton) located 10 km northwest from Dubrovnik. It is divided to Veliki and Mali Zaton. Zaton bay has four main settlements: Zaton Veliki, Zaton Mali, Stikovica and Vrbica. Zaton has recognizable picture of Dubrovnik pastoral region.

The Renaissance summer manors of former Dubrovnik aristocracies are a historical sight that makes Zaton bay recognizable as a Dubrovnik summer manor region. Family Gučetic, Menčetic, Sorkochevich, Saraka i Lukarevich build their summer cottages in Zaton bay.

Today Zaton is popular destination for anyone seeking for peaceful day on beach or walks along the shore under the shade of old pine trees. You can also experience a rich gastronomy of the area in numerous domestic restaurants.Zaton is one of the rear tourist settlements near Dubrovnik without hotels, but it has numerous apartments and rooms available for rental all year
