Nip Fung (zh-tsp|t=聶風|s=聂风|p=Nìe Fēng) or more conveniently known as Wind is one of the two main characters in the popular "Fung Wan" comic series. Being the fastest man in the martial world, he specialises in using legs and sabres to fight.

Unlike Cloud, Wind is very diplomatic and shows his empathy for everyone. As depicted in the comics, Wind is of a ladies' man character who is liked and admired by women for his gentlemanly behaviour. He is illustrated as a handsome and kind young man. He also has a tendency to become a raging beast when provoked to his limit due to his Crazy Blood (瘋血) heritage.

Wind was played by Ekin Cheng in the 1998 film "The Storm Riders".

Childhood

Wind is the only son of the Furious Blade of the North (北飲狂刀) - Nip Yan Wong (聶人王). When he was still very young, Wind's mother left them for Po Kuan (破軍). As a result, Nip Yan Wong lost his sanity and lived a wandering life. Wind was frequently left to fend for himself for food, self-defense and shelter. He would constantly follow the deranged Nip Yan Wong where ever his father roamed and learn the martial arts of the Nip family, which included the Hing Gung (輕功) and five of the techniques of The Supreme 6 Cold Stances (傲寒六訣) indirectly from his father's encounters with danger.

One day, Wind travelled with his father down south for a duel with Duen Sui. After some interruptions by the young Cloud and the emergence of the Fire Kirin that dragged Nip Yan Wong away, Wind and Duen Sui's son, Duen Long fell into the river and were rescued by Hung Ba.

Having found out about Wind's name, Hung Ba immediately accepted Wind as his third disciple, alongside Frost (秦霜) and Cloud.

Wind and Cloud Prophesy Revealed

Wind was Hung Ba's second strongest disciple after Cloud. During his teenage years, Wind had already achieved at least 60% of the Wind God kick stance.

On Hung Ba's command, the teenage (17 years old) Wind managed to kill Du Gu Yi Fang (lord of the Peerless City and younger brother of the Sword Saint) who was much more skilled in martial arts than Wind and had been quantified by Hung Ba as having ten times the strength of Wind. It was revealed in Cloud's point of view during the assassination when he tried to beat Wind to the assassination that Wind was under influence from the Crazy Blood which lent him the strength to accomplish the task to break through the city's defence and make the kill (though it was later again revealed by Dai Yi Mong to Du Gu Mong, the daughter of Du Gu Yat Fong that the person in reality killed by Wind in the Peerless City was a martial artist who resembled Du Gu Yat Fong hired by the later to stand in for him as he attended the scheduled battle between Mou Ming and Po Kuan. The real Du Gu Yat Fong would then be frozen to death and mummified with the other 11 swordsmen invited by Kim Hui, Po Kuan's father and Mou Ming's teacher). After successfully completing the mission in assassinating Du Gu Yi Fang, Hung Ba realised that he had underestimated Wind and began to regard Wind with much suspicion.

Hung Ba grew impatient waiting years for the second half of Mud Buddha's prophecy. He sent Wind together with Frost to find the elusive Mud Buddha. During the trip escorting Mud Buddha back to Tin Ha Wui, a mysterious man appeared. Both Frost and Wind could not match the man's martial skills. As a result, the mysterious man successfully kidnapped Mud Buddha and his granddaughter and brought them to a secluded place. The mysterious man was actually none other than Hung Ba himself. He forced Mud Buddha to reveal the prophecy before killing them.

The second half of the prophecy implied that Hung Ba downfall would be caused by Wind and Cloud. Following this, Hung Ba created misunderstandings and friction between Wind and the teenage Cloud using the girl-servant Charity. Charity was married to Frost (Hung Ba's first disciple) but had an affair with Cloud. Wind frequently reprimanded Cloud and was finally forced by Cloud into a duel upon catching Cloud in the act.

During the duel, Wind was on the losing side (because Cloud was hinted by Hung Ba of Wind's martial arts weakness as taught by him) and was almost hit by a strong palm stance by Cloud when Charity took the blow for Wind. Before dying, Charity revealed that despite married to Frost and the affair with Cloud, she actually loved Wind the most. The devastated Cloud refused to accept the fact and fled with Charity's body. The rift between Wind and Cloud widened.

Like Cloud, Wind later became a fugitive of Tin Ha Wui. Hung Ba sent his team of twelve assassins (天池十二煞) after the two and they went their own ways into hiding. The two would later be reunited by Frost and told about the ultimate fate of Hung Ba that the later is destined to be defeated by the combined effort of Wind and Cloud. After being discovered by Hung Ba of their hiding place, Wind would later be blinded in his left eye by Hung Ba's finger pierce attack when shielding Cloud from the attack and bringing a chance for the two to escape. Wind would later visit the cave where his father disappeared and learn the final sixth technique of learn The Supreme 6 Cold Stances (傲寒六訣) and obtain his father's Blizzard Sabre (雪飲刀) from where he hid it from Cloud when the later was tasked by Hung Ba to snatch the sabre from Wind and Nip Yan Wong. He also obtained the Kirin Seed fruit from the cave which he also gave some to Cloud which increased both of their strength and healed their body damage incurred by Hung Ba. Under the guidance of Mou Ming, Wind and Cloud learned the Mor Ho Mo Leung technique and defeated Hung Ba using the combination attacks from the technique.

Japanese Invasion of China

After the assisted suicide of Hung Ba under Cloud's sword, Juet Mo Sun, then the most powerful warrior of all of Japan appeared in the second arc of the storyline and brought up a plan to invade China. Wind would reunite again with Cloud to deal with the chaos as brought by the fight between Juet Mo Sun's army and the Imperial army. Juet Mo Sun finally managed to hold the emperor hostage in the Forbidden city. through espionage with help from his assassins and also via the emperor's consort who had been bought by Mo Sun 20 years ago and replace the emperor with his son Juet Sum in disguise as the emperor. Just as Wind was attempting to free Cloud from captivity in the Forbidden city (due to his past murderous rampage when under Tin Ha Wui), the two met Juet Mo Sun for the first time as the later arrived to claim the Forbidden city when the emperor was being pitted against his assassins. Wind and Cloud then attempted to fight through him to escape but were pinned down by Mo Sun's strength. The King of Swords, Kin Wong, the then tutor of Cloud in swordsmanship (and also a past tutor of Dai Yi Mong, because he was living just opposite of Dai Yi Dou Wong and saw the later's daughter talent in Martial arts and was interested in teaching her. Dai Yi Mong's scar is the result of practicing both of Kim Wong's sword arts and Dai Yi Dou Wong's Emotionless Sabre stance, both which had greatly contradicting internal energies that resulted in the scar) came to assist the two in escaping and the three fought together with Juet Mo Sun, but to no avail. While they managed to escape by boat, Kim Wong then sacrificed himself to hold off the advancing Juet Mo Sun and was seemingly killed.

Sometime later when Wind and Cloud uncovered that Juet Mo Sun was planning to have Juet Sum disguise as the emperor and abdicate the Imperial power to him. Wind and Cloud then took the encouragement from Dai Sam Zheu Wong (第三豬皇) to learn the Demonic Sabre Stance from Dai Yat Xie Wong (第一邪皇). Xie Wong finally accepted to pass on the stance to Wind when he found out that Wind had a less violent personality (which he tested on the two by ordering them to fetch the chess pieces he threw out at them. Cloud broke all the pieces he caught because of his violent personality while those caught by Wind were unscratched). Xie Wong explained that he chose Wind because if he had passed on the stance to a violent person like Cloud, the later would not have mastered the calmness needed to perfect the ascendance to demonhood, a feat which took absolute dedication and dignity. Just as Wind learnt the stance, Xie Wong's lair was ambushed by Dou Wong looking for revenge. Dou Wong managed to beat all of those in the vicinity and even ended up killing Zheu Wong's granddaughter Xiu Tong, who was the student of Xie Wong because she had the ability to calm down the later's demonic personality (which had earlier on killed his own son when Xie Wong's son wanted to know of the new stance his father created). Wind then emerged with his new demonic personality when Xiu Tong's body fell into the poison pool he was training in. Without hesitation, he fought back on Dou Wong and nearly killed him with one technique, until Mong shouted out at him to stop. He then disappeared from the Martial Society due to his unstable demonic influence which wanted to look for Juet Mo Sun, who Wind made as the main target of ascending into demonhood. Wind appeared during the day when Cloud and Mou Ming challenged Juet Mo Sun when he was uncovering his plans. The two were defeated by Juet Mo Sun because of his Invincible Body Armour Stance (不滅金身) which blocked all of Cloud and Mou Ming's attacks. While Cloud managed to break the armour, Juet Mo Sun fought back and injured Cloud and Mou Ming heavily. Wind then appeared suddenly when Juet Mo Sun was about to kill Cloud and with his new knowledge of the Demonic Sabre Stance, managed to beat Juet Mo Sun into submission and even killed his ten elite warriors, who stood in the way of Wind's attempted killing blow to Mo Sun just in time for him to escape. Wind then gave chase through an underground tunnel, but was pitted by Po Kuan along the way and fell unconscious to a mist of chemicals.

"Battle to the Death" (死戰)

After the defeat of Juet Mo Sunn, Wind hunted him into Japan (being followed by Mou Ming and Cloud) and was kidnapped by Tin Wong (天皇) a Japanese warlord who despised Juet Mo Sun and with his knowledge of using shamanic medicine, kept Wind under control under the demonic influence. Wind was then tasked in the finding of the Imperial Dragon Bones which was revealed by Tin Wong as one of the sources of power of China's Imperial foundation. Mou Ming would eventually find out about Tin Wong's plans and after defeating Juet Mo Sun ultimately (who later died when betrayed by Juet Sum under Tin Wong's tutelage). Tin Wong's party which comprised of his two sons, a few other martial artist henchmen and Wind would later uncover the Dragon Bones's location which was where his father Nip Yan Wong disappeared and went into hiding. Tin Wong's men managed to subdue the Kirin Beast which attacked them when its lair was infiltrated. Tin Wong then landed a fatal blow to the beast, which crawled up to Wind's feet to seek tranquility (as it shared the same blood with Wind). Because of the demonic personality, Wind unknowingly killed the beast without hesitation, much to the beast's sadness and surprise. The party then managed to find the burial place for the Dragon Bones and were stopped by Nip Yan Wong and Duen Sui in an attempt to protect the Dragon Bones, but the two were then defeated by Tin Wong himself (after the later's younger son was killed in the battle) and behind the chaos, Wind snatched the Dragon Bones. Cloud who had also came into the middle of the battle with the Imperial forces (including the emperor himself), gave chase to Wind after defeating Tin Wong's self proclaimed perfect martial stance (which led him to commit suicide later on).

However due to the holy nature of the Dragon Bones, Wind's demonic nature was subdued though he was more under the control of the demonic nature. Sometime later he stumbled back to the city steps and was found and nurtured by his martial brother Qin Shuang and new wife Ding Ning (who looked like Kong Chi, though no related) in an attempt for him to recover from his demonic nature. This was when Duen Long was also looking for the Dragon Bones for his own lust for power. It culminated with Cloud, Duen Long and Wind fighting each other for the Dragon Bones (Cloud was trying to keep Duen Long from obtaining it, Duen Long was trying to snatch it from Nip Fung and Nip Fung was protecting the Dragon Bones from both as his demonic nature didn't trust either person). The fight eventually led to a cliff where the three accidentally hit the Dragon Bones and shattered them. The Dragon Bones then released the holy power contained within and it merged with Wind and manifested the Kirin Demon (麒麟魔). Wind/Kirin Demon (the first, not to be confused with Duen Long's later self) would then defeat Duen Long and vanish for seven days. During the time, Dai Yat Xie Wong began to theorise the Kirin Demon's path. He noted that according to legend, the Kirin Demon would attempt to rid himself of all humanly possession and ascend into full demonhood, and by that time, Wind would be totally invincible and be undefeatable. Dai Yat Xie Wong, Dai Yi Dou Wong, Dai San Zheu Wong, Cloud, Nip Yan Wong and Duen Sui then formed a six man alliance to stop Wind. At first, they managed to wound Wind though he escaped (after surviving Xie Wong's desperado attack and thus killing him), Cloud gave chase up to a cliff and fought in an intense battle which ended when Cloud shattered Wind's Snow Drinking Sabre in an attempt by Wind to rid himself of all humanly possessions (including Dai Yi Mung, albeit unsuccessfully) to ascend into full demonhood. With his sabre shattered, Wind deliberately fell off the cliff to absorb the battle essence brought by the sunset, but was followed by Cloud at the last moment in an attempt to either kill him or save him. Seeing that there still exists emotion in Wind, Mong followed suit to stop Cloud from landing a killing blow. Without much defence and in close proximity, Wind was hit on the forehead, where his demon aura originated and thus the aura retreated back into his body, making him recover from the demonic influence. At the last moment of the fall, Cloud gathered his strength and sent Wind and Mong up back to the cliff with a push. As Wind and Mong land safely at the side of the cliff, Cloud plunged into the sea and has been lost since.

Crazy Blood syndrome

A Crazy Blood syndrome (瘋血) runs in the Nip family, which was passed down through generations from Wind's ancestor Nip Ying (聶英) when he was accidentally bathed in and swallowed the Kirin Beast's blood in a fight where he managed to wound the beast. The blood led to him obtaining the Beast's inhuman strength and nature when the syndrome kicks in. The syndrome led to Nip Yan Wong's father killing his entire family albeit sparing his life before committing suicide. It also intensified Nip Yan Wong's insanity after he was left by his wife for Po Kuan. The same syndrome was the main cause of Wind's berserkerness at times when he fought with opponents stronger than him and was provoked to release the Kirin power. However, age, martial experience and a family poem (冰心訣) help him gain better control from berserking and also harnessing part of the enhancement in power brought by the berserkerness.

The Legendary Kirin Demon

During the Japanese invasion arc of the first part of the story, Wind came across the chance to learn the deadly Demonic Sabre Stance (魔刀) from Dai Yat Xie Wong (第一邪王) due to constant encouragement from Dai San Zhu Wong (第三豬王) and, along with the increase in power brought by the full harnessing of the power of his Crazy Blood (due to the understanding of the Crazy Blood power from the dedication to martial arts as required to master the Demonic Sabre Stances) and the constant evolving nature of the Demonic Sabre Stance (based on the stance's concept of forcing the opposition into a pre-planned fatal spot where the opposition would reveal a fatal opening and striking the killing blow from there), Wind became arguably the most powerful character in the storyline's continuity. This was also the time when his left eye was virtually resurrected by his powers and became the centre of his demonic powers (魔眼), and was able to see and sense the fatal weakness of each opponent Wind fought).

When the Dragon Bones Wind was harbouring with him after robbing it from the burial grounds under the order/influence of Tin Wong were shattered from an attack by him, Cloud and Duen Long, the holy powers from within were released and fused with Wind's demonic powers which then manifested the legendary Kirin Demon (麒麟魔) in Wind. At that point, Wind had exceeded in power levels more than anyone else in the entire storyline (as evidenced in how powerful Duen Long became when he became the second Kirin Demon later on in the storyline) and was considered temporarily an arch villain. Wind even nearly killed Cloud on a few occasions during their ultimate fight but due to injuries (suffered from the combined attacks by the six martial great man alliance (see above) and Dai Yat Xie Wong's final desperate blow) and an almost broken Snow Drinking Sabre, Cloud was fortunate to have survived albeit with heavy injuries. Wind would eventually be brought under control of his demonic powers when the two fell off a cliff which caused Cloud to fall into amnesia for 12 years while Wind was pierced in the forehead--the source of his demonic powers and the Kirin Demon was sealed inside of his body. He then went into hiding to hone his martial arts skills and take control of his sane nature before reemerging in the Martial Society again. Currently he no longer uses the demonic stances which he had mastered, though he still exhibits potential to do so, for example when he was mentally manipulated by Duen Long and Juet Sum near the end of the second part of the storyline, he accidentally released the internal energies of the Demonic Blades of Blood (血刃魔攻) to repel the control. The internal energies are the one which enabled him to increase his demonic powers by matter of self injury, as used when he was trying to master the Demonic Sabre Stance earlier in the story. The only other attack which is deemed demonic that Wind had used after his recovery is the Demonic Flock Dance kick (群魔亂舞).

The Dragon Pill

Wind indirectly absorbed a Dragon Pill (龍元) by chance at the epilogue of the second part of the storyline. After the ultimate duel with Duen Long, he was fatally injured. Cloud tried to keep him alive using the powers of the Dragon Pill in Cloud's body. However, the powers were only sufficient to save one life. Thus, Cloud chose to be frozen together with Wind while waiting for their friends and family to find another Dragon Pill. 20 years later, the highly-skilled but mischievous medicine man, Shen Yi, found the frozen heroes and tried to transport the ice block for experimentation. Halfway they were stopped by a burly kind-hearted youth. The ice block containing Wind and Cloud fell nearby a Dragon Pill that was lost. Absorbing the power of the Pill restored Wind's life.

Romance with Dai Yi Mong

Wind first came to know of Dai Yi Mong one day when he was rescued from a fall from a cliff when he was training by Dai Yi Mong. She left him a letter telling him to be cautious of his movements and started to befriend him and they became pen pals. As the years passed Wind would eventually grow fond of Dai Yi Mong and insisted on several accounts in his letters to Dai Yi Mong to meet her. Getting rejected because of Dai Yi Mong's inconfidence about her looks (due to her largely visible scar), Wind became slightly delusional every time he discovered someone by the name of 'Mong' (dream), one being Du Gu Mong, daughter of Du Gu Yat Fong.

During the Japanese invasion arc, Wind met Mong for the first time (after confusing Du Gu Mong as the one he was looking for and being told of the truth because the later felt like Wind was not truly loving her and thus left) and the two became lovers. Mong was eventually brought away from Wind by her father Dai Yi Dou Wong (第二刀王) after defeating Wind without much difficulty, when he found out that Mong had been neglecting his teaching to abstain from romance and emotion to perfect his sabre stance the Emotionless Sabre Stance (斷情刀) right after the two met and confirmed their affections for each other. This also gave Wind an indirect motive to master the Demonic Sabre Stance due to it being the only sabre technique documented to be more superior to the Emotionless Sabre Stance.

Mong was also the only person who has been spared by Wind's demonic nature, even though he originally intended to murder her and rid himself of emotions, as prophesied in the path of the Kirin Demon.

After Wind's release from the demonic influence, he disappeared from the Martial Society for sometime after his recovery from the fall with Cloud from the cliff they were last fighting to marry and live a simple life with Mong. It was also then when he promised Mong to never again release his true powers which meant sealing away his ultimate form the Kirin Demon (which he showed was possible when he was threatened to release it by Duen Long and Juet Sum later on in the story line). Before Wind would return to the Martial Society, he had a daughter with Mong. During the Duen Long's ascend into evil arc of the second part of the storyline Mong gave birth to Wind's son, Yi Fung (易風) while in captivity. Their baby son was later switched by Duen Long's wife with hers and Mong would later raise that son, Shen Feng (神鋒) during Wind's disappearance with Cloud while they recover from the ultimate fight with Duen Long.

Wind was finally reunited with Mong during the last volumes of the comic though their son Yi Fung eventually went on to become like him when he learned the Demonic Sabre Stance and became obsessed with the 10 Armageddon of Evil King stance (邪王十劫).
