York Community High School is a school in Elmhurst, Illinois, United States. There are approximately 2,582 students. Most reside in Elmhurst, and a portion of Oak Brook. York was established in 1918. The building saw many additions from 1950 through 1990, including a third floor, swimming pool, and additional facilities. After 2001, the city of Elmhurst passed a referendum to rebuild the school. Construction started soon after and the new building has separate academic, service, and athletics areas (including a new fieldhouse).

Athletics

York High School is one of the two schools in the West Suburban Conference's Silver Division.

The York Football Program

The program has reached new heights after winning the West Suburban Conference three times (2005, 2006, & 2007). The Dukes reached the 2006 semifinals with the best record in school history, suffering only one regular season loss to Loyola Academy. After three playoff wins, the Dukes fell to the Wheaton Warrenville South Tigers.The Tigers went on to eventually win state and we're ranked #3 in the nation and #1 in state. York Dukes were ranked #54 in the nation and #3 in the state.

The York Boys XC Program

Known for its boys cross country team, led by coach Joe Newton since 1960, the York Dukes have won 26 Illinois state cross country titles and 20 National Titles under his leadership. [http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/dave_krider/10/10/newton/index.html] Recently, members of the York team have competed at the inaugural Nike Team Nationals (NTN) national high school championship cross country meet in Portland, Oregon, where they finished 1st in 2004 (with the club name "Kroy") and 2nd in 2005 (as "Elmhurst XC"). A movie has been created about the Boys York HS running program and coach Joe Newton.
