Shayne Bennett

Shayne Bennett

Shayne Anthony Bennett (born April 10, 1972 in Adelaide, Australia) was an Australian rules footballer who played for North Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), and a right-handed pitcher, who last played in Major League Baseball for the Montreal Expos on August 15, 1999.

The younger brother of fellow North Adelaide footballer Peter Bennett, Bennett was a leading junior footballer for North Adelaide and was drafted by Victorian Football League (VFL) team Collingwood at the 1989 VFL Draft. Instead of signing with Collingwood, Bennett concentrated on baseball, eventually signing for the Montreal Expos.

He was a member of the Australia national baseball team that finished in sixth place at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
